About

Accessibility

We want everyone who works with data to be able to read Data Governance Signal, whatever device or assistive technology they use.

What we do

  • We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.
  • Every page is checked with automated accessibility tests (axe and Lighthouse) before it goes live, in light and dark mode and at phone and desktop sizes.
  • All pages work with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link appears when you press Tab, and the focused element is always outlined.
  • Text keeps sufficient contrast, can be enlarged to 200% without loss of content, and the site follows your system's light or dark setting.
  • Images that carry information have text alternatives; the key figure and caption on each news card are given in its text alternative.
  • The rotating top stories on the homepage can be paused, stop while you hover or focus on them, and do not rotate on their own if your system asks for reduced motion.
  • Headings, landmarks and labels are structured for screen readers.
  • A Listen button on articles and columns reads the text aloud with your browser's built-in voice. The quality of the voice depends on your device.

Known limitations

  • Articles link to original sources on other websites, including PDF documents from regulators and courts. We cannot guarantee that those are accessible.
  • Search needs JavaScript. Without it, you can browse by topic, institution or the full list of stories.
